HeyPungi is a mobile reading platform that both parents and children can use — independently or together. It brings together audio stories, attention development sets, and English learning modules under one intuitive interface. The platform lets children explore freely while giving parents a controlled learning environment. Through gamification and a child-friendly design, learning becomes an adventure rather than a chore.
Problem Statement - Parents’ concerns regarding their children’s exposure to unvetted and non-pedagogical content in the digital landscape. - Complex interfaces in existing children's apps that prevent kids from exploring and learning independently without adult assistance. - Digital platforms serving as passive viewing experiences rather than providing interactive growth environments for early childhood development.
I created wireframes to establish the core user flows before diving into visual design:
Design System A design system was built from scratch for HeyPungi, covering colour, typography, and UI components — validated by pedagogical experts to ensure age-appropriateness and brought to life with custom illustrations developed in collaboration with professional illustrators. Every component was converted into reusable Figma symbols, creating a shared language between designers, educators, and developers that kept handoff clean and implementation consistent across the board.
Designing an end-to-end product for children is a rare and humbling challenge. HeyPungi pushed me to think beyond screens — considering cognitive development, parental trust, and pedagogical value in every decision. A few things that stayed with me; - Designing for two users at once : Every screen had to work for a child and satisfy a parent. Keeping both mental models in balance sharpened how I think about multi-audience products. - Collaboration goes beyond the team : Working alongside pedagogues and illustrators, not just developers and PMs, was new territory. It made the output richer and the process more grounded in real user needs. - Constraints are a design tool : A tight timeline and a young, sensitive user base forced creative problem-solving. The math-gate solution is a good example of turning a limitation into something that actually fits the product's world. HeyPungi has been honored with the 'Horizon-Expanding Technology Award' by ITU Cekirdek.
